Foxkin Traits

Size.

In fox form your size is small. In foxperson form your size is either small or medium.

Speed.

In fox form your walking speed is 45 foot. In foxperson form it is 30 foot.

Languages.

In foxperson form you can communicate as normal. In fox form you can still understand all languages you know but can’t speak. In addition, while in fox form, you gain the ability to speak with animals as though you were using the "Speak with Animals" spell.

Natural Armor.

In your fox form, your small size and agility grants you a natural armor of 13 + DEX.

Foxish Resistance.

In both your fox and foxperson form you have resistance to fire damage.

Appearance.

In fox form, your appearance resembles that of a regular fox. In foxperson form you are humanoid with fox ears and a tail (fur?).

Darkvision.

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.

Fox Form.

You can transform into the form of a fox and back again at will, each as an action.
In your fox form, you gain natural armor, bite and claw attacks, and the ability to speak with other animals.
Like a wildshaping druid, you choose whether your equipment falls to the ground in your space, merges into your new form, or is worn by it. Worn equipment functions as normal, but the DM decides whether it is practical for your fox form to wear a piece of equipment. Your equipment doesn’t change size or shape to match your fox form, and any equipment that your fox form can’t wear must either fall to the ground or merge with it. Equipment that merges with your fox form has no effect until you leave the fox form. You also cannot use items or mechanisms, unless they can be operated with paws.
Also similar to a druids wildshape, your fox form limits your ability to cast spells. You cannot cast new spells, except for those from this species' innate spellcasting, but retain concentration on any spells you have already cast, and are able to use actions of ongoing spells, such as those of "Witch Bolt" or "Call Lightning".

Bite.

While in your fox form, you can use your bite as unarmed strikes. These attacks deal 1d6 + STR piercing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage usual for an unarmed strike.

Claws.

While in your fox form, you can use your claws as unarmed strikes. These attacks deal 1d6 + DEX slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage usual for an unarmed strike.

Multiattack.

At 5th level you can perform one Bite and one Claw attack when you take the attack action on your turn.

Innate Spellcasting.

You know the control flames cantrip and can cast it at will. In addition, when you reach 3rd level, you learn the Burning Hands spell and can cast it once per long rest without a spell slot. The spellcasting ability for these spells is one of Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma, which you choose when you select this species. You can also cast these spells while in your fox form.
